Mental Health Overview

Mental health is similar to physical health except it is related to a person’s mind and their mental well-being, rather than their body and physical wellness. It is defined by World Health Organization as “a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their community.”

Just as there are diseases affecting the human body, there are certain conditions causing harm to a person’s mental health as well. Anxiety, depression, ADHD, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, Alzheimer’s disease, PTSD, and addiction are some examples of the most common mental health issues today. There are various factors causing these mental health issues such as brain chemistry, developmental experiences, and environmental causes, among others.
